چکیده

Introduction Group A Streptococcus (GAS) causes diseases ranging from superficial skin & throat infections to severe lifethreatening diseases. Streptococcus invasive locus (sil) is a virulence gene responsible for pathogenesis of GAS. This study intends to detect the presence of sil gene among the non-invasive GAS and its association with toxin genes, erythromycin resistance genes, and emm types.

Molecular epidemiology of sil locus in clinical Streptococcus pyogenes strains.

Streptococcus pyogenes (group A Streptococcus [GAS]) causes a wide variety of diseases, ranging from mild noninvasive to severe invasive infections. Mutations in regulatory components have been implicated in the switch from colonization to invasive phenotypes. The inactivation of the sil locus, composed of six genes encoding a quorum-sensing complex, gives rise to a highly invasive strain. Howe...

Prevalence of Streptococcus invasive locus (sil) and its relationship with macrolide resistance among group A Streptococcus strains.

A recent study by Bidet et al. (1) reported the molecular epidemiology of the streptococcal invasive locus (sil) in the group A streptococcus (GAS), an organism which caused invasive infections in French children. The authors demonstrated the prevalence of emm type toxin genotypes among 74 invasive GAS isolates from French children. The authors PCR amplified and characterized the locus DNA of s...

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Streptococcus pneumoniae is a major cause of morbidity and mortality especially in children less than five years, particularly in India. We present data on S.pneumoniae infections in children less than five years age group, with response to its serotype distribution, antibiotic resistance profile and available vaccines expected coverage. METHODS Children aged less than...
